Typhoon Talas made landfall on the south-western Japanese island of Shikoku Saturday morning, bringing torrential rains and strong winds, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. One person died, three were missing and 27 were injured in weather-related accidents in central and western Japan as the typhoon hit Kochi prefecture at about 10 am (0100 GMT), broadcaster NHK said. Officials said Talas had sustained winds of 108 kilometres per hour and gusts of 144 kilometres per hour.
