At least 18 people were killed and 26 injured in a twin suicide attack on a military academy in Algeria, the Defence Ministry said Saturday. The attack happened late Friday when the two attackers blew themselves up in front of the academy's entrance, according to Algerian newspaper El Watan, where officers had gathered to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan. The number of dead was high because the second bomber waited to let off his explosives until rescue services and other people had gathered to help the victims of the first attack, dpa reported. According to the ministry, 16 officers and two civilians were killed in the bombing, which took place in the town of Cherchell, 90 kilometres west of the capital Algiers.
