Officials say assailants have opened fire in a northern Algerian city and killed two traffic policemen, AP reported. The regional government said a young man was also wounded when the gunmen emptied their magazines Tuesday night in Bordj Bouararidj, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) southeast of Algiers. The government said Wednesday that the attackers escaped with the police officers' weapons. Also Tuesday, a soldier was killed when his truck hit a roadside bomb, according to a police official, who requested anonymity, citing policy. Two other troops were wounded in that attack in Taourga, 350 miles (560 kilometers) east of the capital. -- SPA
