Eighteen people, including three children and a policeman, were injured in two explosions outside a supermarket in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, late on Sunday, sources from the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Monday. According to committee sources, "at 22:00 Moscow time an unidentified person triggered a self-made explosive device near a supermarket on Prospekt Akushinskogo." A saleswoman was slightly injured in the blast, and the interior was damaged. The second device went off about ten minutes later after police had arrived at the scene and passers by flocked to the site of the blast. It was planted opposite to the entrance to the supermarket. "As a result of the second blast, 17 people received different injuries, including three infants and a policeman. They were rushed to a city hospital," the sources said. Besides, police vehicles were damaged. Criminal proceedings have been launched on five articles of the Russian Criminal Code - attempt on the life of law enforcement officers, illegal circulation of explosive substances and devices, intentional damage to another's property, attempt on the life of two or more people in a socially dangerous way, as well as illegal manufacturing of explosive substances and explosive devices. An investigation is underway.
