The Human Rights Council started here today its 17th emergency session to discuss the situation of human rights in Syria. The session was held at the request of Poland on August 17 and signed by four Arab countries in addition to the United States of America, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Guatemala, Hungary, Italy, Maldives, Mexico, Norway, Peru and Uruguay. The Council will discuss a draft resolution calling for the condemnation of violence and killings in Syria, demanding Syrian authorities of an immediate end to violations of human rights and full cooperation with international human rights mechanisms.
