U.S. President Barack Obama in a video link conference last night with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai discussed a number of issues including the delivery of the responsibility of the security situation in Afghanistan to the Afghan leadership. A statement issued by the White House said that the two Presidents held talks about the progress made by the coalition forces and Afghan forces on the handover of security responsibility to the entire Afghan leadership by 2014 in addition to joint efforts to establish a long-term strategic partnership. The statement added that the two presidents also discussed their shared commitment to the (national) reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan and means of supporting the strategy of regional cooperation.
