European shares are ending a turbulent trading week on a more confident note Friday after positive US economic data helped to lift stocks on Wall Street. The benchmark Europe Stoxx 600 share index was up 2.54 per cent at 236.41 points in late trading after slumping as Friday's session got underway. Several national European bourses chalked up even bigger gains with Zurich's SMI bouncing up by 4.48 per cent. While shares Asia were mixed in closing trading, London rose 2.52 per cent and stocks in Frankfurt as well as Paris had gained about 3.3 per cent as the week ended in Europe. Buoying market sentiment on Friday were the release of a positive US report on July retail sales, which helped to ease concerns about the outlook for the world's biggest economy. This followed better-than-forecast initial jobless claims released Thursday.
