A 68-year-old man who confronted rioters during the height of troubles in London earlier this week has died of his injuries, taking to five the number of riot-related deaths, dpa quote the authorities as saying. Richard Mannington Bowes was left in a coma when he was set upon by a mob in Ealing in west London late Monday. He was attacked as he was trying to stamp out a fire. Police have launched a murder inquiry. His death follows those of three Asian men who were run down by a car in Birmingham as they attempted to protect their community from looters. A 26-year-old man was shot during disorder in Croydon, in south London, on Monday. More than 1,500 people have been arrested in towns and cities across England, and 591 have been convicted of public order offences. -- SPA
