UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Monday visited the northern Japanese city of Fukushima to meet public officials and evacuees from areas around a damaged atomic power plant. The Secretary General, who arrived in Japan Sunday for a three-day visit, was to talk to high school students in Fukushima in the afternoon and visit some areas in the city of Soma, which was devastated by the tsunami. Later Monday, Ban Ki-moon was to travel to Tokyo to meet Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto to address ways of strengthening the United Nation's ties with Japan, Kyodo said.
