Eight people were killed and 28 injured when two knife-wielding assailants attacked several people in Xinjiang region of north-west China, official media reported Sunday. Two attackers hijacked a truck at a red light in Kashgar City, killed its driver, and drove it into a crowd of people at around 11:45 pm Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported. The two then exited the vehicle and began stabbing people at random, killing six and injuring 28. A crowd killed one of the attackers and detained the other, it said. Two explosions occurred in the area about an hour before the attack, the report said. One of the blasts came from a minivan.
