A Turkish soldier was killed today in an attack by militants from Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK (Kurdish: Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan) in southeast Turkey. The Turkish News Agency "Anatolia," quoted Turkish government officials as saying that the gunmen opened fire on a military unit engaged in security patrolling of the streets in the town of Shamdilinee in the province of Hakkari in the south east of the country, killing a soldier in the attack. Extensive probing operations have started in the region to find the gunmen who had carried out the attack.
