Australian police have fired tear gas and shock grenades to quell asylum seekers who set fires at a detention center, AP reported. Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Wednesday that such protests would only hurt their chances of getting visas. Police say one man was arrested after Tuesday night's riot by some 50 inmates at the Christmas Island detention center. Police say the protesters breached several compounds within the center and used improvised weapons and lit several fires. There were no injuries.
