Afghan forces in central Afghanistan have begun to take over security responsibility in a process that will end in 2014, an official said Sunday, according to dpa. The handover took place in the central province of Bamyan in an official ceremony on Sunday, Abdul Rahman Ahmadi, spokesman for the provincial governor said. The NATO-led forces are set to hand over security responsibility to the Afghan forces starting this week from seven areas, including two provinces and most parts of Kabul province. "Today, security transition starts here officially," Ahmadi said. "Afghanistan is going to take responsibility of their own security." Afghan interior and defense ministers, NATO's top military commander General David Petraeus, ambassadors from Japan and New Zealand attended the handover ceremonies, he said.
