Seven people died and one was missing after the passenger plane they were flying in crash-landed on a Siberian river, dpa quoted Interfax as reporting on Monday. Pilots of an Antonov 24 twin-engine turboprop brought the plane down onto the surface of Ob' River in the west Siberian Tomsk region because of an engine fire. Four crew and 32 passengers had been aboard the Antonov, which had been en route from the provincial capital Tomsk to the oil field city Surgut. The aircraft remained afloat and rescue workers reached and removed 26 survivors from the wreckage, said Tatiana Sherstova, a Ministry of Transport spokeswoman. Police teams in boats and helicopters were still searching for one person known to be aboard the plane but had not yet been accounted for, she said.
