A cargo plane carrying supplies to US troops in Afghanistan crashed outside Kabul, killing all nine crew member, dpa quoted an Afghan official as saying Wednesday. The Russian-made Illyushin 76 disappeared from airport radar screens late Tuesday and crashed into a mountain some 25 miles north-west of Kabul's airport, said Yaqub Rasoli, head of the facility. The plane had departed from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and was on its way to Bagram, the main US military base in Afghanistan, which is located north of the capital, Rasoli said. All nine crew members on board were killed, Nangialay Qalatwal, spokesman for the Afghan Civil Aviation and Transportation Ministry said. A rescue team dispatched to the area reported back saying they have found the wreckage of the plane, the transportation ministry official said. "The area has been secured now." The plane was completely destroyed by the impact and subsequent fire, Qalatwal said. -- SPA
