7000 Palestinian prisoners in all Israel's prisons Sunday began a mass hunger strike for one day in protest of Israeli racist policies against them such as solitary confinement and intentional medical negligence, said a statement by the Palestinian Prisoners' Club (PPC). According to Palestine News & Info Agency WAFA, the statement said the prisoners decided to go on hunger strike for one day to raise the alert of deteriorating prison conditions that are endangering their lives, especially after extreme calls by the Israeli government to enforce difficult measures upon Palestinian prisoners. PPC stressed the importance of taking an urgent stance and moving within an overall strategy to counter the Israeli policy against prisoners. The statement called on Palestinians to participate in a demonstration held by the Supreme Committee for Prisoners and Palestinian Prisoners' Club at 11 am Sunday in the city of Ramallah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a speech on June 24, had called for harsh treatment against Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, leading prison administrations to escalate repressive measures against them including intentional medical negligence, preventing them from buying from the prison canteens and stopping outreach prisoners' education.
