Spanish health authorities said almost half of children in Spain are overweight or obese, which could be a serious problem, according to UPI. A study by the Spanish Agency of Food and Nutrition Safety showed 45 percent of children in Spain age 6 to 9 are considered overweight or obese, El Pais reported Friday. Spanish Health Minister Leire Pajin said children most affected by this epidemic are those who have video consoles, computers and TVs in their own bedrooms. The study looked at some 8,000 children across Spain and found 26 percent of children are overweight and 19 percent are obese. The study found children who do not have TVs, video game consoles or computers in their bedrooms were more likely to have a healthy weight. Pajin said the study was very disturbing and plans to begin a nationwide plan to combat the problem.
