Dr. Osama Bin Fadl Albar, the Mayor of Makkah, signed here today a contract valued at SR 14,897,250 for Environmental Sanitation and Control of Epidemics in Makkah and the holy sites. The signing of the contract comes within the framework of the General Administration's activities as regards environmental health and care program covering commercial activities, food-shops and street-vendors as well as the elimination of all negative environmental health phenomena. The Director General of Environmental Health in the Governorate, Dr. Mohammad Hashim Alfotawi said that the General Secretariat had formed committees and field teams to carry out monitoring and follow-up on food and commercial commodities and items in this context. In the first half of the year 1432H, the campaigns undertaken by teams of the General Secretariat, resulted in the confiscation of more than 10, 239 kilograms of foodstuffs and 79, 685 liters of liquid items, more than 15,000 items of various foodstuffs and other items inclusive of pieces of hardware, garments and utensils, he added. A number of shops were found to have some irregularities and had breached the application of health requirements, he disclosed.
