NATO carried out its first daytime airstrikes on Saturday that shook Libya's capital Tripoli. Residents said the fresh attacks targeted a camp for Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA". The attack follows airstrikes conducted by NATO late Friday for the fifth-straight night, news reports said. State television said several explosions were heard and smoke was seen rising above the city. NATO has launched more than 8,000 sorties in its air campaign, which began in late March after the UN Security Council passed a resolution ordering the protection of civilians in a conflict between Gaddafi's regime and rebels.
