The Group of Eight (G8) vowed Thursday to support the so-called "Arab Spring," according to dpa. The leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States were also set to call for a political solution to the crisis in Libya. Reiterating its "commitment for the value of freedom and democracy," the G8 expressed its support for the pro-democracy movements in Tunisia, Egypt and elsewhere in the Arab world. However, apart from a European Union promise to provide hundreds of millions of euros (dollars) in additional aid, it was unclear whether G8 leaders would quantify their overall level of commitment.
