There is a faster treatment for people who have tuberculosis (TB) but who are not infectious, using a combination of drugs that treat the disease in three months instead of nine, U.S. Health officials said on Monday. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) presented the study at a medical conference in Denver. Some health officials called the finding one of the biggest developments in TB treatments in over 20 years. The CDC estimates that more than 11 million Americans have latent TB, meaning they are infected with the TB bacteria but have not had symptoms and are not infectious.
