A Jordanian policeman was injured in the leg on Saturday morning as police tried to arrest thieves in a supermarket in southern Amman, according to the Public Security Department (PSD). It also said that a police patrol raided the supermarket at dawn after receiving a call and found two men inside who shot at them and wounded a police sergeant before they drove away in a vehicle parked outside. Police called in reinforcements and cordoned off the area near Middle East Circle and arrested the men who again resisted fiercely, Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted the PSD as saying. It said the men had a fire arm and sharp objects in their possession and investigations found they had criminal records. The policeman was reported in a moderate condition in hospital.
