The Taliban on Friday claimed responsibility for twin suicide bombings near a paramilitary training centre in Pakistan that killed 73 people, most of them recruits, saying it was to avenge the killing of Osama bin Laden by US special forces. "This attack was carried out to take revenge for the martyrdom of Osama bin Laden and the atrocities committed by Pakistani forces in tribal areas," said Ihsanullah Ihsan, a spokesman for Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, an umbrella group of more than a dozen militant outfits. "We warn the people that they should not allow their children to join the Pakistani military and paramilitary forces because we are planning more attacks on them, you will see soon even bigger attacks on security forces. Our security forces have allied themselves with the American," Ihsan told the German Press Agency dpa by phone from an undisclosed location. Two suicide bombers targeted the recruits earlier Friday as they were preparing to take a short leave from the base in Shabqadar, in the north-west of the country. More than 100 people were also injured.
