The United Nations special envoy to Myanmar, Vijay Nambiar, is to visit the country this week for talks with the civilian government there, dpa quoted the UN and Myanmar as sayingTuesday. In New York, UN spokesman Farhan Haq said Nambiar was invited by the government. "The special adviser will hold meetings in Naypyitaw and Yangon with the newly installed government of Myanmar, political parties, civil society organizations and other key interlocutors, in the implementation of the secretary-general's good offices mandate," Haq said. Haq said that Nambiar will meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, head of the opposition National League of Democracy. Suu Kyi spent more than 15 years under house arrest and was released after the November 7 general elections leading to a civilian government.
