A Canadian woman has been rescued after surviving alone in a freezing Nevada wilderness for seven weeks, Canadian television station CTV reported Monday according to dpa. But rescuers are still searching for her husband, who left her in the couple's van to seek help three days after they became stuck, and has not been seen since. Rita Chretien, 56, and her husband Albert, 59, were on their way from British Columbia to Las Vegas when they took a wrong turn and became stranded on a logging road in northern Nevada, near the border with Oregon and Idaho on March 19. She reportedly survived by eating tiny amounts of trail mix, sweets and fish protein pills, while drinking melted snow. She is now recuperating in an Idaho hospital after losing some 15 kilograms during her ordeal, with doctors expecting her to make a full recovery. Rescue teams have resumed the search for her husband, although they hold out little hope for his survival.
