The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon will open here on Tuesday works of the First World Conference for Disaster Reduction and Reconstruction. The conference is being organized by the United Nations in conjunction with the World Bank and the Global Strategy for Disaster Reduction. The conference brings together 200 delegates from governments, international organizations and civil society. On the sidelines of the conference, which is the first of its kind to discuss the effects of disasters world-wide, a special session is also being arranged by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on a topic entitled "Alert the World to confront potential nuclear disaster" with the participation of ministers, governors and parliamentarians from around the world.
