At least four people died in floods and landslides triggered by a storm sweeping through the Philippines, officials said Sunday. Three people including two children died Sunday when a landslide buried their house in Balatan town in Camarines sur province, 345 kilometres south-east of Manila, police Inspector Ayn Natuel said. A regional police spokeswoman said several roads in the province were impassable due to mudslides and floods. Office of Civil Defence officials said more than 10,000 people had been displaced by floods in the eastern and central region. It identified the fourth fatality as Luis Dingcol, 57, who drowned Saturday in Carigara town in Leyte province, 575 kilometres south-east of Manila, after being swept away by river currents. Nine people were also injured late Saturday after lightning struck an airplane parked at the Manila International Airport. The victims had sought shelter under the plane during a sudden thunderstorm. More than 7,000 passengers were stranded after several domestic flights have been cancelled and passenger ferries were not allowed to sail due to bad weather, according to a report of DPA.
