A Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker is returning to its home port after a radiation leak was detected, according to AP. A statement from Rosatomflot, the shipping division of the state nuclear agency, said in a statement Thursday that a small increase in radiation in the ship reactor's ventilation system was detected. The statement described the increase as "insignificant." But it said that if the situation worsens, the reactor power could be reduced and the ship switched to diesel power. The icebreaker, the Taymyr, was working in the Yenisei Gulf on the northern coast of western Siberia. Rosatomflot says the ship's trip back to its home port in Murmansk is expected to take five days.
