A high-ranking officer was assassinated in the northern city of Kirkuk on Sunday, police said. Colonel Nouzad Talabani was shot dead by gunmen near his home in the city of Kirkuk, some 250 kilometres north of Baghdad. Colonel Nouzad Talabani was a senior officer in the Special Security Bodies. The gunmen responsible for the attack fled the scene, and their identities or affiliations are unknown, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
