Awwal 19, 1432, April 23, 2011 SPA -- Dr Najia A. Zanbagi, a leading parasitologist and Nuha Zailai, a lecturer at Biological Sciences Department of King Abdulaziz University (KAU), have won a silver medal and a certificate of achievement in the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva,(April 04-08, 2011) - the world's largest market-place for inventors, for discovering a treatment for the Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease which is primarily caused by Cat family (Felidae). The work of co-researchers, has a significant importance as it uses alternative natural source called COU-LO rather than chemical treatment. The seriousness of the Toxoplasmosis lies in the non-appearance of symptoms, and infection occurs from different sources, including cats, she said, adding that the infection in pregnant women will cause the transfer of the disease to the fetus through the placenta, leading to an abortion or the birth of children who could be mentally retarded, said Prof.Zanbagi. Dr Zanbagi's great scientific breakthrough was highly lauded by KAU affiliates.
