Awwal 04, 1432 H / April 08, 2011, SPA -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev was sworn in for a new five-year term on Friday, five days after being re-elected with 95.5 per cent of the vote, as dpa reported. His goal was to bring more investment into the former Soviet republic, the authoritarian president said at the swearing-in ceremony in the capital, Astana. Western diplomats said the president's share of the vote Sunday was "very high" and the Vienna-based Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe criticized the ballot as undemocratic.
