Akhir 27, 1432 / April 1, 2011, SPA -- German energy provider RWE on Friday appealed against a government decision to suspend one of its reactors amid a broader moratorium following Japan's nuclear disaster, according to dpa. "The legal requirements to suspend operations are lacking," RWE said. The company is set to lose millions of euros in revenue while its nuclear plant idles. RWE's Biblis A reactor, in the state of Hesse, is one of seven reactors being shut down for a three-month period, during which time security tests will take place which will determine the future of the country's nuclear industry. The move by Chancellor Angela Merkel freezes last years government decision to extend the life span of Germany`s 17 nuclear plants beyond an earlier 2022 phaseout. Merkel has already indicated that events in Japan would cause Germany to partially backtrack on last year`s plans and revert to a quicker timetable to replace nuclear energy with renewable alternatives. The government based its moratorium decision on a legal text which justifies the move if lives, health or physical goods are threatened - a state of affairs which is not given, RWE argues. RWE`s complaint was submitted to the administrative court in the city of Kassel. The company`s shares rose slightly after the move. Another nuclear power generator, Eon, said earlier it would not take legal action against the nuclear moratorium.
