Akhir 26, 1432 H/March 31, 2011, SPA -- Ten US sailors were injured when a jet fighter engine exploded on the deck of an aircraft carrier off the coast of San Diego, dpa quoted the Navy as saying Thursday. Five of the sailors were airlifted for treatment at California hospitals, while the other injured were treated aboard the ship. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when the engine of the F/A-18 Hornet suffered a "catastrophic failure" as the airplane was preparing to take off. The pilot was unhurt in the incident and the ship sustained only minor damage. Officials were investigating the incident Thursday to try to find the cause of the malfunction.
