Akhir 25, 1432 / March 30, 2011, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday evening called Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan to discuss the ongoing efforts to stabilize the country following the March 11 earthquakes and tsunami that devastated the country. President Obama's call was made from Air Force One as he was returning to Washington from a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in New York. The conversation was the third since the disaster struck, the White House said in a statement. "The President reiterated that the United States is determined to support the people of Japan in their efforts to deal with the devastating effects of this tragedy, both in the short and the long term. Prime Minister Kan thanked the President for the extensive U.S. help in the response effort. The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of close U.S.-Japanese cooperation in dealing with the ongoing nuclear emergency," the White House said.
