Akhir 19, 1432 H/March 24, 2011, SPA -- The U.N. envoy for Sierra Leone warns that the west African country remains fragile and vulnerable to sudden economic, social and political shocks from without and within despite its gradual recovery from civil war, according to AP. Michael von der Schulenberg, executive representative of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for the U.N. peacebuilding operation in Sierra Leone, told the Security Council on Thursday that the country will still need international support as it prepares for 2012 elections. He added Germany, the European Union and Irish Aid are among those that have agreed to pay for a large election support project to be managed by the U.N. operations in Sierra Leone, and the United States is also contributing to a parallel effort.
