Akhir 16, 1432 / March 21, 2011, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama departed to Chile on Monday to promote economic growth, after concluding his visit to Brazil in a tour aimed at strengthening trade and investment. "Promoting a safe, stable, and prosperous hemisphere where the United States and our partners share responsibility on key regional and global issues is the most effective means of defending our core democratic values in the Americas,” President Obama told Chilean El Mercurio newspaper. President Obama said that during his talks with Chilean leaders, he will focus on areas where the two countries can work together, such as economic growth, energy, citizen security, and human rights. "The Chilean experience, and particularly your successful democratic transition and sustained economic growth, is a model for the region and the world," President Obama said. On Sunday, Obama delivered a keynote address in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which was the first stop on a three-nation Latin America tour.
