Akhir 11, 1432 H/March 16, 2011, SPA -- The United States on Wednesday advised its own citizens to move 80 kilometres away from a Japanese nuclear power plant that is under threat of a meltdown, urging a much larger evacuation than Japanese officials have called for, dpa reported. The US embassy in Japan told US citizens living within 80 kilometres of the Fukushima power plant in north-east Japan to evacuate. Japanese officials have only advised an evacuation within 20 kilometres and told residents within 30 kilometres to stay indoors. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Japanese "standards are different from ours" in the United States. The decision was based on the US' own analysis of the data and what action would be taken if the meltdown threat was occurring in the United States.
