Akhir 10, 1432 H/March 15, 2011, SPA -- The price of essential electronic components like LCD screens and memory consoles could rise dramatically as a result of the devastating Japanese earthquake, dpa cited research firm iSuppli as saying Tuesday. iSuppli said spot market prices for components like DRAM memory had already jumped 7 per cent since the quake, while higher density NAND memory had increase in price by 10 per cent. "Companies are facing problems shipping components, receiving raw materials and getting workers to their facilities," iSuppli said. "Power interruptions also are slowing production-and can be a major impact on the operations of manufacturing facilities-depending on the type of product being manufactured." Among the firms who have had to scale back production are Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and Canon, all of whom have been affected by the rolling blackouts. Canon said three of its plants had been seriously damaged by the quake itself. According to iSuppli, Japan accounted for almost 14 percent of global electronic equipment factory revenue last year and 16.5 per cent of revenue in the consumer electronics industry.
