Akhir 1432 H. / 11 March 2011, SPA -- A United Nations mission led by Jordan's former foreign minister Abdul Ilah Khatib will hold talks early next week with Libyan parties in Tripoli to find ways to end the bloodshed there, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Friday according to dpa. Ban said the UN Security Council had informed him that a "range of options" remains open to the body as the next steps to be taken to deal with the Moamer Gaddafi regime as fighting continued and the number of refugees grew. Ban did not elaborate on the options. Ban said in announcing the UN mission that Khatib, a seasoned diplomat, has accepted a "critical and demanding assignment" to mediate an end to Moamer Gaddafi's use of force against civilian rebels. Khatib will be joined by UN political affairs, humanitarian and human-rights officials to visit Tripoli for "several days," Ban said. But Khatib's schedule and meeting partners has not been announced.
