Akhir 05 , 1432 H. / March 10, 2011 -- Romania's top court has ruled that a senior politician collaborated with the country's communist-era secret police, AP reported. Thursday's final ruling comes five years after Dan Voiculescu, deputy speaker of the Senate, was formally accused of links to the Securitate which was controlled by former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The Securitate had an estimated 700,000 informers and was used to stifle dissent during the dictator's 25 year-rule. In the past, Voiculescu has sued and threatened journalists for reporting collaboration, despite the fact the company where he was employed was a Securitate company. Voiculescu said Thursday he would take his case to the European Court of Human Rights. Voiculescu's family owns a media empire which is critical of President Traian Basescu. -- SPA
