Akhir 05 , 1432 H. / March 10, 2011 -- The Australian government Thursday removed the last regulatory hurdle stopping forestry company Gunns Ltd from building a controversial and long-delayed pulp mill in Tasmania, according to dpa. The 2.5-billion-Australian-dollar (2.5-billion-US-dollar) project was hatched in 2004 and given provisional approval in 2007 but has struggled to allay the concerns of environmentalists and find financing. "There are now tougher environmental conditions and they are not simply a matter of trust but they are now conditions for the development to go ahead," Environment Minister Tony Burke said when giving the go-ahead to the pulp mill. Burke ruled that Gunns must use plantation timber rather than trees cut from Tasmania's native forests.
