Akhir 04, 1432, March 09, 2011, SPA -- Japan's chief government spokesman says a top foreign ministry official will become the new foreign minister. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano says Takeaki Matsumoto, who currently holds the ministry's No. 2 spot, will be promoted later Wednesday. Matsumoto will replace Seiji Maehara, who stepped down Sunday for accepting an illegal political donation from a foreigner, according to a report of the Associated Press.
