Akhir 1432 H. / 08 March 2011, SPA -- The Ivory Coast ambassador to the U.S. asked the United States to help his war-torn West African country following disputed elections. "We want to launch an appeal to you through Congress: assist Cote d'Ivoire and its people," Ambassador Daouda Diabate said. Diabate also asked for a strengthening of the mandate of the U.N. mission, saying that U.N. troops do not have the authority to exert influence in the country.
