Awwal 27, 1432 H/March 2, 2011, SPA -- Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General for Military Affairs, received at his office in Riyadh today visiting Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey Mohamet Wajdi Jonol and the accompanying delegation. During the meeting, Prince Khalid bin Sultan cast light on the historical ties binding the two countries culminated by signing an agreement for friendship and cooperation between the two countries in 1929. He noted the two state visits the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has paid to Turkey in 2006 and 2007 as well as similar visits of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, to the Islamic country. Prince Khalid bin Sultan quoted Turkey's President Abdullah Gol as saying the other day that Saudi Arabia and Turkey are the Islamic world's most important countries. He recalled that his official visit to Turkey last year has yielded the signing of a bilateral agreement and laid the foundation for boosting cooperation between the two countries further more in the defense field. He expressed hope to see Turkey an strategic partner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For his part, the Turkish minister thanked the government of Saudi Arabia for warm welcome and generous hospitality. He praised the keenness of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to further boost relations between the two countries in all fields. Then the two sides discussed issues on the agenda of the meeting. Following the meeting, Prince Khalid bin Sultan said a number of agreements on cooperation between the two countries, exchange of experience and training courses in the military field were signed. He disclosed that joint exercises will be conducted between the two armies.
