Awwal 23, 1432 H/Feb 26, 2011, SPA -- Gerry Adams, the president of the nationalist Sinn Fein party, was declared Saturday to have been elected to Ireland's parliament on the first count, according to dpa. Adams, known internationally for his role in the Northern Ireland peace process, campaigned in the north-eastern Louth constituency, running for the first time in a general election in the Republic of Ireland. The opposition Fine Gael party is expected to win the election, with the Labour Party set to be the second largest party in the parliament.
