Awwal 22, 1432 H/Feb 25, 2011, SPA -- Spain's biggest airline Iberia went from the red into making a profit of 89 million euros (123 million dollars) in 2010, prior to sealing a merger with British Airways (BA) in January, the carrier said Friday, according to dpa. In 2009, Iberia had made losses worth 273 million euros. The profit was based partly on the increase of long-distance travel, the income from which grew by 17.6 per cent, while earnings from medium-distance and domestic flights dropped by 1.4 and 6.4 per cent respectively. In January, Iberia completed a merger with British Airways, forming the International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG). The two airlines retained their separate brands.
