Awwal 16, 1432, Feb 19, 2011, SPA --At least twelve people were killed and 70 injured after three bombers targeted a bank on Saturday in eastern Afghanistan, a government spokesman said. The explosion took place in a branch of Kabul Bank in Jalalabad city according to Ahmad Zia Abdulzia, the spokesman for the provincial governor. There were contradictory reports as to whether the three bombers were killed in the explosion itself or shot by security forces in the aftermath. The bank was located at Kamran Plaza, a private business building with several other offices. Afghan security forces were receiving their monthly salaries when the attack took place early Saturday Abdulzai told German Press Agency, dpa. "Our report indicates that there were some soldiers (among the dead) and injured in the bombings," he said without giving an exact number of soldier killed. Earlier, the Afghan President's office said that three suicide bombers blew themselves up at the Kabul bank branch in Jalalabad. But police officials said the three first seized the bank building in Jalalabad city, triggering a gunbattle with police. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the bank.
