Awwal 14, 1432 H/Feb 17, 2011, SPA -- The US ambassador in Pakistan Thursday complained at Pakistan's delay in confirming that a US citizen employed by the embassy and held in the country for the killing of two people holds diplomatic immunity, dpa reported. Raymond Davis, a former US special forces soldier killed two people in Lahore on January 27, but says it was self-defence to avoid an armed robbery. On Thursday a local court delayed a hearing on his case until March 14 - quashing hopes for a quick solution of the issue which has created rift between Pakistan and the US. "The United States is disappointed that the government of Pakistan did not certify that Raymond Davis has diplomatic immunity," said Cameron Munter in reaction to the hearing in Lahore. Munter said his country had made its position on this case clear that Davis action was covered under the Vienna Convention, but Pakistan is showing reluctance to certify it due to fear of domestic backlash. Senator John Kerry, chairman of Foreign Relation Committee, held talks with Pakistan's civilian and military leadership on Wednesday to convince them to release Davis. -- SPA
