Awwal 14, 1432 H/Feb 17, 2011, SPA -- The Czech government announced Thursday it had found and seized a suspicious payment of 5.5 million euros (7.5 million dollars) connected to the 2009 Czech presidency of the European Union, accordin to dpa. The Ministry of Finance in Prague said the monies were being held in accounts in Austria and Britain. The accounts were linked to the firm ProMoPro, which was paid 21.5 million euros for carrying out audiovisual services during the presidency, in a contract that was awarded without tender. In a press conference in Prague, Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek indirectly indicated that current defence minister and then Europe minister, Alexandr Vondra, may have had some involvement in the affair. Vondra denies any responsibility. The two men belong to different parties within the governing centre-right coalition. -- SPA
