Awwal 13, 1432, Feb 16, 2011, SPA -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the European Union (EU) for playing a greater political role in the peace process in parity with its economic weight. In a meeting here on Tuesday evening with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for the European position in support of the peace process and the Palestinian side particularly in the economic field. On her part, Ashton said that the EU continues to support the Palestinian Authority to build its institutions and state.
